Revisiting Bethany
Although we are in the midst of summer holidays, many former pupils are taking the time to visit; it is always a pleasure to welcome alumni and friends. Even during the holidays we may have children on the School grounds and, as such, we ask that you please let us know if you are planning to visit so we can arrange for you to be accompanied.
Brendan Parke, former President of The Bethanians Society
On Monday 13th August, Bethany School was honoured to welcome back Brendan Parke, a former President of the Bethanians Society who attended our School in the 1940s.
Visiting Kent for a family christening, Brendan took the opportunity to return to Bethany and took a tour of campus with his wife, Jean. He was particularly keen to try and locate some swimming trophies from his time at Bethany which bear his initials.
Brendan regaled staff with stories of Bethany during World War, including seeing the troops coming through Goudhurst on D-Day (and being given Hershey's chocolate bars by the American soldiers), seeing over a thousand planes in the skies over Kent, and recalling the day the School was almost hit by a doodlebug, which was fortunately deflected by a plane and landed in a field of sheep instead of on the School grounds!
It is always a privilege to welcome former pupils to Bethany and to hear your memories and stories.
Another former pupil, John Brown, who attended Bethany in the 1980s, visited in August and was welcomed by the Headmaster.
