In a close first half, Bethany set out with quick, well-executed passing and movement down the court. The defence did a brilliant job of intercepting and tipping the ball. Delilah Hutchings picked up any loose balls and linked well between the defence and attack.
At quarter time, the scores were 3-2 and 7-4. In the second half, Bethany continued to work hard to get the ball back and the third quarter remained close, with both teams scoring three goals each. In the final quarter, King’s pushed ahead a little further to win the game.
However, the U15 A team should be very proud of themselves as they made an impressive improvement and played well together as a well-gelled unit. Special mention should go to Edith Lowe for improvement and Ruby Russell who took control and did not stop moving throughout the game.
Final score: Bethany 9, King’s Rochester 13 Player of the Match: Beth Kuhepa Coaches Player: Frances Lye
Bethany U15 B visited King's Rochester as part of a week of netball fixtures across the year groups. Bethany took to the court and made an impressive start, leading 3-0 for a short while.
King's began to get into the game towards the end of the first quarter, with the score 3-4 to King's. Bethany appeared to lose their way a little in the second and third quarter and King's pulled away. At the end of the third quarter, Bethany turned attention back to the basics, passing accurately, contesting for loose balls and defending all the way through the court. This focus enabled the girls to have a successful fourth quarter and we finished the game Bethany 6, King's Rochester 18.
Final score: Bethany 6, King's Rochester 18 Player of the Match: Charlotte Ensor for fantastic tips and interceptions Coaches Player: Beatrice Westbrook for significant improvements in footwork
Bethany U13 A had a nail-biting netball match against King's Rochester today. The game was incredibly close, and the final score could have gone either way.
Ella Smith and Anna Kiddell dominated the Bethany circle, giving King's defence no opportunity to gain possession of their play. Elsa Taylor had a superb game at C, and turned over a lot of ball throughout the court. The new combination of Alice Gilbert as WA and Kate Schlimper as WD was also very impactful and the whole squad impressed with their adaptability.
Every team member had fantastic work rate and should be very pleased with their performances today, well done.
Final score: Bethany 11, King's Rochester 10 Player of the Match: Ella Smith Coaches Player: Kate Schlimper
Bethany U13 B began their match confidently shooting well when they had the opportunity under the post. The half time score was 3-0 in Bethany’s favour.
In the second half it was very close with King’s GK intercepting and tipping our final pass into the D and interrupting the flow of play. With Jessica Hambridge out with an injury in the final quarter, we struggled to regain composure and King’s capitalised on this coming back in the final minutes. Special mention should go to Emily Fraser for great improvement in both footwork and movement on the court.
Final score: Bethany 4, King's Rochester 4 Player of the Match: Emma Kuhepa Coaches Player: Nell Martin
Today King's Rochester visited Bethany in the last match of the week in what proved to be a game of two halves. Bethany started the game exceptionally well, all of the players putting out their best performance of the season so far.
The flow down court was exceptional, all players reading well off their teammates and making the right moves at the right time. This hard work was rewarded by a two-goal lead at half time. During the half time talk, the weather changed from bright and sunny to windy and rainy and with this, the 1st team’s play deteriorated into a more chaotic, panicked style of play.
King's had made some crucial changes in the shooting circle which also added more pressure to the scoreline. At the end of the third quarter, we reflected on our game objectives and decided that the game was still Bethany’s to take if we put these objectives back into place. Bethany battled to the very end and although mistakes were made, the team demonstrated excellent work rate and commitment throughout the game.
Final score: Bethany 12, King's Rochester 19 Player of the Match: Abbie Lancaster Coaches Player: Lorraine Bonsu
Bethany 2nd Netball team travelled to King’s Rochester to compete in an afternoon tournament, playing against 8 other teams with some tough opposition including Sir Roger Manwood's, Benenden and Sutton Valence.
With a squad of 10, and the girls sharing the court time equally, this was a real team performance. Winning three games, drawing one and losing four, the girls fought hard throughout the afternoon in wind, rain and sunshine.
Special mention should go to Lolly Discombe who played centre for the entire tournament, to Belle Zhou for brilliant play and Eleanor Hardwick. Eleanor received numerous comments from the opposition umpires for her brilliant play as Goal Defence, using her height to her advantage as well as moving the ball down the court well.
Result: 3 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses (mid-table) Player of the Match: Squad performance Coaches Player: Lolly Discombe
During a thankful respite from the wet weather conditions, the 1st XI football team travelled to Sevenoaks School on Thursday afternoon to finally play a match.
On a pitch that was still very sticky from the wet weather this term and a match that endured both heavy rain and bright sunshine, the team applied themselves with outstanding commitment.
The match was played in a wonderfully competitive spirit and Bethany took a deserved lead midway through the first half when Harry Wheeler headed in from close range. Strong performances from the back four, and Jack Bartram in midfield kept Sevenoaks at bay while creating chances for the forwards. Harry Wheeler struck the crossbar with a wonderful effort from outside the box and a number of shots were saved by the opposition goalkeeper as Bethany continued to apply pressure.
Sevenoaks did grow into the game and just before half time drew level with a scrappy goal. During the second half, Sevenoaks dominated the midfield and created an increasing number of chances. The Bethany defence stood firm for long periods, but eventually, the ball crept into the corner of the goal after a long-range effort, and a quick third goal sealed the win for Sevenoaks.
However, given the size of the opposition school and the disruption to both training sessions and matches played by the Bethany team, it was an excellent performance.
Men of the match: Jack Bartram and Theodore Von Halasz
